Murray picked up the clarinet for the first time in grade 6 music class during their introduction to band instruments. It's a tale as old as time; person picks up instrument for the first time, and person loves that instrument immediately. Throughout elementary school and high school, Murray played clarinet as much as he could in school concert bands, chamber ensembles, and community ensembles.

Murray was recognized for his clarinet proficiency during his time at Queen's. He was offered an audition to the performance stream at the end of his second year, and asked to perform in various pit bands. He was appointed concertmaster of the Queen's Wind Ensemble during his third year.

Murray has had the opportunity to study under high calibre clarinetists, such as Dr. Kornal Wolak and Gordon Craig, among others. He seeks to improve clarinet playing in music education settings, and continue to play wherever and whenever he can. He is available for clarinet masterclasses and one-on-one lessons.
